By now we all know that the products we put onto our bodies can impact our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing as much as those that we put into them.
Clean products are those free from the toxic chemicals that can end up in our blood stream, disrupt our endocrine system, and that research* shows are linked to reproductive issues, cancer and autoimmune disease. These chemicals can hide in the most benign-sounding ingredients – like fragrance.
While the clean beauty movement is buzzing right now – and there are SO many options, it can also feel a little intimidating. Clean beauty can be expensive – and while we believe some things are worth the splurge – it doesn’t all have to be.
Here are our favorite – tried and true – affordable clean beauty products. These are the ones we swapped the more expensive stuff for:
Facial Cleanser: Acure Seriously Soothing Facial Cleansing Cream
Our favorite cleanser. It’s gentle, thorough and you can pick it up at Whole Foods. Chamomile and rose hip along with sunflower amino acids will have your face feeling clean, soothed, and nourished.
Facial Lotion: Ursa Major Fortifying Facial Balm
Ursa Major is one of our favorite accessible clean beauty brands – with products that feel luxe and potent. For a soothing and calming facial lotion you can use anytime – this fortifying balm is a winner.
Mask: Manuka Health Pure Manuka Honey
Using this honey in its pure state as a mask brightens, reduces redness, and soothes breakouts. It’s a three-in-one powerhouse. While there are other more pricey manuka-based masks on the market, we find using the honey in its purest form works best – and a little goes a long way.
Deodorant: Ursa Major Hoppin’ Fresh Mint + Eucalyptus
After years spent on ‘clinical strength’ deodorant, the transition to clean in this area was tough. We tried everything. This one by Ursa Major is the only clean deodorant we’ve tried that works just as well as the more mainstream stuff – if not better.
Toothpaste: Jason Natural PowerSmile, Anti-Cavity & Whitening Gel
Dental care seems to be one of the last frontiers for clean self care. The ingredients in mainstream toothpaste rank among the most toxic on the EWG*, but finding a clean toothpaste that actually works hasn’t been simple. We’ve tried them ALL and can recommend this one by Jason as our clear winner.
